About

Walnut Law is owned by Sue Walter.

Sue has been practising as a solicitor in NSW since 1999. She studied a combined Bachelor of Arts and Laws at the University of Sydney and is admitted to practise to the Supreme Court of NSW and the High Court of Australia. She obtained a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice in 1999 from The College of Law and in 2026 completed the Practice Management Course.

Sue has experience in dispute resolution across a broad range of commercial litigation disputes, from the local court to the High Court of Australia. Sue’s experience includes acting in large complex commercial litigation, from the local court to the High Court of Australia, as well as successfully negotiating resolution of disputes before they escalate.

Outside Walnut Law, Sue works as in-house Legal Counsel for Maitland City Council, a role she values for the ability to help the community and some of those who need it most. She has a broad variety of work with various teams across Council in relation to planning, land and environment court matters, compliance, prosecutions, drafting and negotiating agreements, and advising on risk.

For years, she worked in numerous roles in private practice as a solicitor which she found consistently frustrating due to the values she aspired to as a lawyer in helping people in a way which would truly help them.

There had to be a better way.

After receiving consistent compliments from clients, battling the system, the firm and legal culture, she decided to take action, and Walnut Law was born.

Sue is also a qualified nutritionist and during stints of disillusionment between law, has previously had two small businesses, Sue Walter Health & Nutrition and Soapalicious - 100% Natural Body Nutrition. Sue has always admired the mighty walnut as a symbol of wisdom, understanding, protection, mental clarity, hidden truths, personal insight and strength (not to mention for its nutritional value and brain health).

She lives in Lake Macquarie near Newcastle and enjoys spending time with her family, travelling, going to the beach, eating healthy food and making soap with real and natural ingredients.

Sue is positive and friendly solicitor who ‘get’ people. You can rely on Sue to give you the help you need on time and in a way you can understand.
